Chicago Bears Face Massive Backlash After Reported Decision On Coach’s 2025 Future
Chicago Bears fans are upset with the front office for their reported decision on head coach Matt Eberflus‘ future with the team. Ebeflus is 14-28 in three seasons with the Bears. Eberflus inherited a tough gig when he agreed to become the head coach of a rebuilding team.
The latest Bears Banter Podcast has dropped!
The Chicago Bears have had a bumpy couple of weeks. After a 4-2 start, they’ve dropped two straight, and fans are getting restless knowing how difficult the final eight games of the season are.
If the team doesn’t right the ship, what does that mean for head coach Matt Eberflus? We had ESPN’s David Kaplan on the podcast to discuss his thoughts on Eberflus, if he’s the right guy for the job and if the Bears would let him go with two years remaining on his contract.
While I am in wait-and-see mode if the Bears would do it (they’ve done it once in 105 years of football), Kaplan believes that they would if they believed they needed to do it.
“Here we are now with the latest valuations on Forbes, is that franchise is worth north of $5 billion approaching 6. That’s billion, like Bill,” Kaplan stated. “And I don’t want to hear that the $5 or $6 million that guy makes; that is tip money to an NFL franchise… If they made a bad purchase, it’s a sunk cost. Pay the man his money if you make that decision. I’m not sitting here advocating for them to fire him today, if I was the owner I would change coaches, I’ve said that, but what I’m saying to you is the money should be irrelevant.”
It’s a great conversation with Kaplan, if you want to watch the whole podcast you can do that here on the 2nd City Gridiron YouTube page:
Per the NFL Network‘s Adam Rank, the Bears have decided to retain Eberflus for the 2025 season.
“I will say, and then the second part of that is that there’s a possibility that Matt Eberflus actually has a five-year contract (which would run through the 2026 season_ and that he might be more locked in,” Rank said Wednesday via the Sick Podcast with Adam Rank. “Because I talked and I might have alluded to this a moment ago. I talked to some people within NFL circles, people who are close to Ryan Poles.
“And they indicated to me that regardless of what happens at all, Matt Eberflus is coming back regardless. That they’re not going to be in a situation where they just, they just, they put him, they put him in the same spot that they put Justin Fields and Mitch Trubisky and Rex Grossman and everybody else. They’re not going to do that.”
