Browns signing CB Denzel Ward to five-year, $100.5M extension

New York Giants kicker Greg Joseph will not play against the Washington Commanders, and rookie Jude McAtamney is set to take his place

New York Giants kicker Greg Joseph has been ruled out for the team’s game at home on Sunday against the Washington Commanders due to an abdomen injury.

Joseph was unexpectedly scratched on Friday after not being on the injury report all week. His absence raises more concerns for the Giants’ special teams against Washington.

With Graham Gano still unable to play after getting hurt on the opening kickoff in Week 2 against the Commanders, rookie Jude McAtamney is expected to be promoted from the practice squad to play.

McAtamney, a 24-year-old from Northern Ireland, played two seasons of Division I college football at Rutgers.

In their first matchup this season, the Giants lost 21-18 to Washington after scoring three touchdowns but missing an extra point and two 2-point conversions while Gano was out due to a hamstring injury. Gano was added to the injury report late that week with a groin issue, but the team chose not to promote McAtamney as a backup.

Since joining New York, Joseph has made 13 of 16 field goal attempts. The team received some good news on Friday when running back Tyrone Tracy was cleared to play after going through the concussion protocol.

Jayden Daniels brought the Washington Commanders back from the dead last weekend. Can he again come off the injury list this Sunday? Still nursing sore ribs suffered in a blowout win over the Carolina Panthers Oct. 20, Daniels still isn’t back to full speed at practice in advance of Sunday’s NFC East game at the New York Giants.

Said Daniels earlier this week, “I’m still intact. I feel good.” The painful injury didn’t stop the star rookie quarterback from hurling a 52-yard Hail Mary – that was actually thrown 65 yards in the air – that receiver Noah Brown caught for an unlikely, walk-off touchdown over the Chicago Bears. But according to coach Dan Quinn he still isn’t 100-percent recovered.

“I wish I knew,” Daniels said of his timetable. “It’s just how I feel daily, how I wake up and how I’m able to move around. And the organization here has a great plan, so I’m trusting that and following it.”
