EFL pundit shares surprise score prediction for Luton Town vs Sunderland

Sunderland take on Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in the Championship on Wednesday night.

Sunderland travel down to Luton Town on Wednesday night in what is the Black Cats’ 11th Championship game of the season.

Regis Le Bris sees his side currently sitting in 1st place of the Championship table after their 1-0 win at Hull City last time out.

The Hatters meanwhile sit in 17th after what’s been a rocky start following their relegation from the Premier League under Rob Edwards last time round.

But Luton claimed a resounding 3-0 win over rivals Watford last time out, ending a run of three games without a win.

Sam Parkin shares Luton Town vs Sunderland score prediction

Speaking on the Championship Check-In podcast, former Luton Town striker and now EFL pundit Sam Parkin gave his score prediction for the game between Luton Town and Sunderland.

And Parkin has backed the Hatters to claim another victory, despite the Black Cats being unbeaten in three and having lost one of their last five.

Parkin said: “I’m going to go big on my old side here.

“Resounding win in the derby the other day, and I think Saturday; I’m creating the narrative here, they go to Coventry in an early kick-off, and I just think that could be a massive game for Mark Robins, and a game that they could possibly get points in if they don’t get anything at QPR.

“So for that reason, I think Luton will get the job done here. I don’t think they’ll complete the nine-point week… I’ll go for Luton to win by two goals to nil. Big one.”

Did Sam Parkin correctly predict Hull City vs Sunderland?

Sunderland fans may be wary to know that Parkin correctly predicted a Sunderland win at Hull City in Sunday’s game.

But he predicted a 3-1 win for the Black Cats rather than the 1-0 scoreline it eventually finished.

The last and most memorably clashes between these two sides was in the 2022/23 Championship play-off semi-finals.

Eventual winners Luton Town lost 2-1 at the Stadium of Light but won 2-0 at Kenilworth Road, beating Coventry City in the play-off final.

In fact, Sunderland haven’t won away at Kenilworth Road since 2007; a 5-0 win on the final day of the 2006/07 Championship season as the Black Cats lifted the title.

The Hatters have beaten Sunderland just once since 2007. There’s been six meetings between the two sides since with one win each, and four draws.
