Leicester City brilliantly troll Southampton after stunning comeback

Leicester City fought back to claim a remarkable victory at fellow promoted side Southampton on Saturday

Leicester City completed a staggering second half comeback against fellow promoted outfit Southampton on Saturday, to book-end the recent international break with successive victories. City signed off earlier this month with a narrow win over Bournemouth, before they staged an unlikely fightback at St Mary’s this weekend.

Trailing 2-0 at half time following an early strike from Cameron Archer and a finish from Joe Aribo, Steve Cooper’s side were well and truly up against it, but they pulled one back through in-form loanee Facundo Buonanotte before the game’s defining moment arrived – Jamie Vardy was hauled down by Ryan Fraser, who was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity. Vardy duly converted the awarded penalty.

While a 2-2 draw having trailed would’ve been an admirable result in the circumstances, Jordan Ayew sent the away end into raptures deep into stoppage time with his first Premier League goal for the club since joining from Crystal Palace in the summer.

Regrettably for Southampton’s social media team, their post on X at the break, with the Saints sitting pretty at that stage, didn’t age well; they’d posted a photo of goalkeeper and summer signing Aaron Ramsdale celebrating one of his side’s first half goals, with the caption: “Us rn [right now].”

Their City equivalents didn’t miss the opportunity to dish out a bit of lighthearted retribution for going so early and duly posted a photo of Vardy, with the ball under his arm, after his penalty had drawn the visitors level, accompanied by the same caption.
