Jhon Duran benched again by Unai Emery ahead of Aston Villa clash v Fulham
Ty Bracey believes Unai Emery will stick by Ollie Watkins when Aston Villa visit Fulham despite Jhon Duran scoring again on international duty with Colombia.
The Villa striker duo both featured during the international break with the Englishman grabbing an assist while his counterpart scoring off the bench once again.
The 20-year-old has since revealed that he is “ready to start wherever” [FIFA] ahead of a trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday 19 October.
Villa podcaster Bracey, who features on the Villa Social, thinks Emery will maintain his trust in Watkins despite the form of the Villans’ number nine.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “He has certainly done everything to warrant a start but I understand why Emery sticks with Watkins.
“I don’t think the way to instil confidence in Duran is to remove other players and potentially hurt them.
“We know that Watkins will come good, there’s no harsher critic than himself so I have no doubt about him.
“He will probably start against Fulham but Duran can’t really do much more to earn that spot. It’s just one of those things, it wouldn’t surprise me if we saw either one of them start to be honest.“
Unai Emery to decide between Jhon Duran and Ollie Watkins for Aston Villa v Fulham
There is no doubt that it is a massive positive for the Villans to have a decision between two strikers who have such good goal-scoring pedigree.
It has to be said that after signing a new contract in B6, there will be demands from Duran to start more games after scoring six goals in ten club games this campaign.
The clash against Fulham, with Jaden Philogene potentially out injured, could prove to be the perfect opportunity for Emery to start the 20-year-old alongside Watkins and just see how the duo play alongside each other in the Premier League.
