Wolves are ‘looking’ at Sunderland’s Dan Ballard and Sheffield United’s Anel Ahmedhodzic, as per a report by Molineux News. They are also keeping tabs on Rennes centre-back Christopher Wooh.
The Midlands outfit have the chance to bolster their ranks in the January window ahead of the second-half of the season. They have endured a tricky start to the new Premier League campaign and are currently bottom of the table.
In this latest update regarding Wolves, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told Molineux News: “Am told they are looking around – they watched Wooh as we know – but they are looking closely at abroad and England and are being offered many different players – safe to say we see one CB come in January,” Bailey said.
“They are looking at the Championship and am told two players they have watched this season are Sunderland’s Dan Ballard and Sheffield United’s Anel Ahmedhodzic.”
Ballard has been on the books at Sunderland since 2022 and has been a key player for the Championship side. He has made 69 appearances for the Black Cats in all competitions and has chipped in with three goals.
The Northern Ireland international, who is 25-years-old, rose up through the academy ranks at Arsenal but never played a first-team game for the Gunners. He was loaned out from the Emirates Stadium at Swindon Town, Blackpool and Millwall to get some experience.
As for Ahmedhodzic, he is now in his third year with Sheffield United and is one of the Blades’ most prized assets. He has played 79 matches for the South Yorkshire club and has found the net on nine occasions from the back.
Wolves are back in action this weekend with a tough home clash against Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side are 2nd and are a point behind Liverpool at the top.
O’Neil has said: “Points wise, it’s obviously bad. Very bad. I’ll be the biggest critic of my team, I know we will face criticism from outside, but I’ll have the most critical opinion and I felt a real need to be critical of them after the second half against Chelsea, the second half against Aston Villa and the 90 minutes at Brentford. I thought we were below our own standards in those, but the rest of it we’ve given a good go against some tough opposition, and come up a bit short.
“We sit here now, seven games in with one point, which, if you don’t look into the depths of how and why, it sounds like a disaster, and there’s two very tough games coming up in the next 10 days as well. But if you look into the situation and the fixtures, and how the team has performed, you will see that there is enough there to have a real clear view that we can turn this around.”
He added: “I have 100% faith in myself and in the playing group that together we will show everybody that we’re more than capable of competing at level.”
