What Mets’ Pete Alonso has to say about potential final home game at Citi Field
Mets’ Pete Alonso could play in final game at Citi Field if as a Met if eliminated in Game 5 of NLCS
NEW YORK — Pete Alonso could be playing his final game in orange and blue at Citi Field should the Mets be eliminated in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series on Friday.
Speaking to reporters after the Mets dropped Game 4 by the score of 10-2 on Thursday, Alonso revealed that he is “absolutely not” thinking about the possibility of the Mets’ season being over.
“I’m so focused on trying to win for these guys. This group is really special and it’s been an absolute blast this year. We’ve accomplished a lot,” Alonso said. This is going to be an incredible challenge and I’m really excited to go into battle tomorrow with the guys in this clubhouse.
“It’s been really fun but we intend to keep putting our best foot forward and keep rising to the challenge.”

After splitting the first two NLCS games at Dodger Stadium, the Mets have lost two straight at home. They’ve been outscored in the series 30-9 and have been unable to drive in runners on base. In this series, the Mets have stranded 33 runners and have gone 4-for-27 (.148) with runners in scoring position.
Mets pitchers haven’t done much to help the team win either, walking nine more batters Thursday to set a four-game playoff record of 31 in the series. The 10 runs allowed were the most they’ve allowed this postseason, and so, too, were the 12 hits against.
Still, Alonso believes the Mets have a chance to come back from three games down in the series.
Why wouldn’t he? Alonso is the one who helped the Mets advance to the NL Division Series, hitting a game-winning home run in the ninth inning in an elimination game against the Brewers in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series.
“I believe in this group,” Alonso said. “This group has responded so well to adversity all year and the character of this team, the one word I can think of for the 2024 Mets, other than Grimace, is resiliency. That’s just who we are.”
