Manchester United could have 11 players missing for Brentford in latest Erik ten Hag nightmare
Latest Manchester United news and gossip as Erik ten Hag deals with several players on the sidelines through injury for the Premier League clash against Brentford
Manchester United could be without several important players for their return to Premier League action this weekend.
United will host Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday in their first match after the October international break. The Reds go into the game on the back of a goalless draw with Aston Villa before the two-week hiatus earlier this month.
Erik ten Hag will be forced to name a starting line-up without several key players for the clash against the Bees. Summer signing Leny Yoro remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a fractured metatarsal during pre-season and is yet to make his competitive debut for United.
Fellow centre-back Harry Maguire is also on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury in the draw with Villa two weeks ago. The England international could be unavailable for several weeks based on initial reports after the injury.
Noussair Mazraoui will also be unavailable for United this weekend after undergoing a successful minor precautionary corrective procedure after he experienced heart palpitations. Luke Shaw (calf) and Tyrell Malacia (knee) also remain unavailable as the two left-backs continue their recovery from their respective injuries, while Mason Mount is still sidelined with a knock.
The international break also saw more United players emerge as fitness doubts. Amad withdrew from the Ivory Coast squad through illness, while Kobbie Mainoo was also not part of the England squad with a hamstring issue.
Alejandro Garnacho was not part of the Argentina squad this month due to a potential knee injury. It remains to be seen if the forward will be available to face Brentford this weekend.
Manuel Ugarte has also emerged as an injury concern after appearing to be in some discomfort during Uruguay’s draw with Ecuador. Ten Hag will likely provide an update on the midfielder’s fitness in a press conference this week.
Rasmus Hojlund missed training with Denmark last week with what has been suggested to be a precaution. The striker only recently returned from a lengthy lay-off with a hamstring injury.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank is ‘very happy’ with the Bees, but is in no rush to quell speculation linking him with the Manchester United job.
Erik ten Hag remains in charge at Old Trafford but few expect him to be in the role for the long-term after a nightmare start to the season.
The Dutchman was already under pressure after an underwhelming last campaign and with the Red Devils sitting 14th in the Premier League table after seven games, that pressure is not easing.
He has survived the latest international break but he desperately needs positive results, starting on Saturday against Brentford, to hang onto his job.
