Wrexham wanted to sign Will Lankshear on loan from Tottenham Hotspur but missed out on the forward after Ange Postecoglou decided to keep the youngster in north London.

The Spurs teenager was not the only forward on the Welsh outfit’s radar over the summer, however.

Wrexham were front runners to sign Bailey Cadamarteri on loan from Sheffield Wednesday but he eventually made a move to League One rivals, Lincoln City.

Striking reinforcements would eventually arrive at the Racecourse Ground late in August, however.

Owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds splashed the cash and allowed Wrexham to sign Modou Faal for a club-record fee of £590,000 from West Bromwich Albion.

Despite the big sum paid out for him, however, Phil Parkinson has so far afforded the 21-year-old just two outings in a Wrexham shirt.

Wrexham fans named Faal Man of the Match against Wolves’ U21s earlier this week but he remains without a single appearance in League One.

Now though, as per Leader Live, the former Baggies star has suggested that his lack of playing time under Parkinson is down to the lack of fitness he arrived with back in August.

He said: “It is building confidence and gelling with the team, and getting a bit more fitness to be honest.

“When I left my previous team, I don’t think I came to Wrexham very fit so credit to the gaffer because he has done well with me, slowly getting me back to fitness and I feel like I am getting there so that is good for me

“I have just got to keep working hard every day and hopefully I can get in there somewhere soon.

“I have got time on my side but everybody still wants to play.

“Me and the gaffer speak and I feel like I have gained his trust and he has gained my trust because everything he is saying makes sense to me.

“It is going alright at the minute so I don’t want to start pushing anything because of my fitness and stuff like that but I do want to play.”

In the same interview, Faal explained which of the other Wrexham strikers he is most like, comparing himself to Steven Fletcher and Ollie Palmer.

He added: “Our strike-force is one of the best in the league so for me it is just soaking it all up. I think the competition is important because it pushes everyone to be better.

“In training, I see some of the stuff that they are doing and learn a lot from them.

“I am a bit more like Fletch and Ollie so watching them definitely helps me as a big man.”

Standing at 6ft 4, it is clear Faal is exactly the type of striker Parkinson will want to replace Palmer in the long-term.

The Wrexham manager prefers a two-man strike force made up of one tall and one small forward.

Given his size, Faal will be best suited to partnering one of Paul Mullin or Jack Marriott up top for Wrexham.
