‘Pretty impressive’… Crystal Palace star claims ‘mature’ Man City transfer target has ‘got the world at his feet’

Manchester City have plenty of experience when it comes to signing players.

In fact, City are also very familiar with securing transfer deals for players from some of their fellow Premier League clubs.

For instance, the likes of Jack Grealish, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic have all made moves to the Etihad Stadium in recent years from numerous top-flight sides.

Recent weeks have seen City get linked with a handful of midfielders following an ACL injury to Rodri, which Pep Guardiola said will see him miss the rest of the season.

Now though, the teammate of one midfielder the Citizens have been linked with recently has shared some significant praise about the player in question.

Appearing in a recent video uploaded on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Joel Ward said this when asked about Adam Wharton, who Caught Offside recently reported could be of interest to City for the upcoming January transfer window.

He said: “I think he’s got the world at his feet.

“He’s a young lad and he’s very mature, very wise and plays the game and reads the game and understands the game so well.

“His ability on the ball and his vision and what he’s seeing ahead of time is pretty impressive.”

Wharton is a big fan of Rodri

Since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers back in the previous January transfer window, the England international has appeared in 24 games with the Eagles.

Across those matches, the midfielder has delivered four assists, highlighting how useful he can be in terms of chipping in with goal contributions.

The midfielder highlighted one current figure at the Manchester club he greatly admires, as Wharton heaped this praise on Rodri back in June.

He said: “You see how consistent he’s been in the last few seasons and the way he plays. He rarely has a bad game.

“He’s got a bit of everything. He’s good on the ball, stops attacks, keeps teams penned in. When they clear it, he’s always there to clean it up.

“He isn’t dribbling past five players. You don’t need to do that in that position. He just keeps it, gives it and keeps the ball moving to move the opposition. That’s when the gaps come and you can give it to the great players at the top of the pitch.”

Interestingly, City’s initial interest in Wharton arose when the Evening Standard reported back in June that the Blues had earmarked the Englishman as a long-term target and potential future heir for Rodri.

Now that Ward has highlighted what he thinks makes the 20-year-old special, this could persuade the Manchester club to make a swoop for him in January to help fix their Rodri problem.
