Las Vegas Raiders CB Jakorian Bennett continues to riseBears Provide Big Injury Update as Bye Week Gets Underway

Through six weeks of the NFL season, the Chicago Bears’ defense has been one of the best in the league. This is thanks in large part to their secondary and the depth they have in it.

That unit was put to the test this past week in London when backups Elijah Hicks and Jaylon Jones started. Both Hicks and Jones played well in place of Jaquan Brisker and Tyrique Stevenson, respectively.

During the game, the Bears’ depth was tested even further when nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon left with a hamstring injury. Before exiting, Gordon was having quite a game, flying around to the ball.

Although Gordon’s replacement, Josh Blackwell, played well, losing him for an extended amount of time would be a huge blow to the Bears’ defense.

According to Courtney Cronin of ESPN, on Monday, head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters, “Gordon got imaging done this morning, but the severity is still unknown. But we are hopeful. We are fortunate that the bye week is here, and we have some extra time.”

Eberflus is correct in stating the Bears are lucky this is their bye week, which gives Gordon time to recover. If this week wasn’t the Bears’ bye, there is a high probability Gordon would miss the upcoming game.

The best-case scenario for Gordon and the Bear’s defense is that he only has a pull or strain. if it’s anything more serious, Gordon will have to miss multiple games. If that happens, Blackwell will have to continue to step in, which, even though he played well, isn’t what the Bears want.

Over the course of the last two seasons, jokes were made at the expense of the Chicago Bears over the fact that each of their games against each other was a primetime contest on Thursday Night Football.

If the 2024 season is proof of one thing, it’s that life comes at you fast when you have a good starting quarterback.

The Bears are on their Bye Week but will play the Washington Commanders in Week 8. It’s a matchup between the

first two quarterbacks taken at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft. Caleb Williams, of course, was the first-overall selection while the Commanders selected Jayden Daniels with the following pick.

Given the hot start that Daniels had to the season, many were critical of the Bears’ approach with Williams From November on last year, the Bears were locked onto Williams being the next starting quarterback of the organization. The tunnel vision that the Bears had on Williams led some to believe the team overlooked Daniels.
