Tony Cascarino would pick Nottingham Forest star as one of the best Premier League players this season
Nottingham Forest have made a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign and sit tenth in the Premier League with 10 points from seven games.
Last weekend, the Reds went to Chelsea and claimed a 1-1 draw and perhaps could have won it even after James Ward-Prowse had been sent off.
Forest had some top performers last week – with Chris Wood impressing Roy Keane – and Matz Sels capturing the heart of Joe Hart on Match of the Day 2.
Across the campaign, Forest are striving for an improvement at home. Only two points have been taken from three City Ground games and Nuno Espirito Santo has to sort that.
However, the progress is there for all to see and hopefully, the Reds can ensure a far more comfortable fight against a relegation battle this time around.
Tony Cascarino seriously impressed with Nottingham Forest player
Forest have caught the eye this season in the eyes of the media and outsiders away from the City Ground but it’s largely been down to some positive results on the road.
The Reds won at Liverpool and Southampton, with shares of the spoils claimed at Brighton and last weekend at Stamford Bridge.
With several Forest players away on international duty, it’s a chance to take stock of things and Tony Cascarino has even backed a Reds player as one of the best of the campaign so far.
He said on TalkSPORT: “Cole Palmer has done really well obviously at Chelsea. He has shown his ability at the club to keep what he did last season really. He has been outstanding.
“I think Kovacic at City has been brilliant. I would go Wood (of) Forest.
“Four goals in seven games. Danny Welbeck for Brighton. Four goals in seven games. Has done really, really well in a striking sense.”
Forest must give Wood a new contract
This looks to be the perception of most Forest fans these days, with the Reds looking likely to open talks with Wood.
He deserves it too. The work he has put in behind the scenes is abundantly clear and even though he’s 33 in December, Wood is playing the best football he’s ever played in the Premier League.
Forest shouldn’t become a club that gets rid of players who are performing well and certainly not on a free transfer.
Wood is scoring goals, he’s a leader in the dressing room and perhaps crucially given his age, he still looks to be fit and hungry to keep proving himself by scoring important goals.
It’s great that Wood is getting some recognition for his current Forest form and now the club has a big decision to make over his future at the football club.
