NFL coach puts league on notice about Packers receiver Dontayvion Wicks

Green Bay Packers: Dontayvion Wicks Announces Injury Update After the Win Against the Arizona Cardinals

The Packers played their most complete game of the season and routed visiting Arizona, 34-13, at Lambeau Field. Green Bay won its second straight game and improved to 4-2.

“Well, we talked about coming into this game just playing four quarters of complementary football, and thought that was about as good as we could’ve done it,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “There’s always stuff that we can clean up, but I thought all in all, just the effort from start to finish, the focus from start to finish, was exactly what is a great formula for winning football. All in all I thought it was pretty efficient really in every phase of the game.”

Here’s the good, bad and ugly from the Packers’ win over the Cardinals.

Love, who missed Weeks 2-3 with a sprained MCL, has been up and down since his return. But Love had his finest game of the year.

Love tied his career-high with four touchdown passes. He also completed 22-of-32 passes for 258 yards and had a passer rating of 119.5.

“I felt good. I felt good today,” Love said. “But obviously every week is a new test. We’re going to enjoy this one, we’re going to go back and do what we do every week — watch film, learn and grow from it and get back to it next week because every week’s a different test, different opponent. So got to go out there and handle business next week.”

Love became the first Green Bay quarterback to throw four touchdown passes in consecutive home games since Brett Favre did so in 1995. And Love completed passes to nine different players.

“That’s just the glory of our offense, man,” wideout Jayden Reed said. “We’ve got a lot of different players that can make plays. We distribute here. We’ve got a lot of different playmakers, and you’ve got to game-plan for that.”

WELCOME BACK: Christian Watson suffered an ankle injury two weeks ago against Minnesota and missed the Packers’ Week 5 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Green Bay’s offense is just different, though, when the speedy Watson is on the field — and Sunday was more proof of that.

Watson ran right down the seam and hauled in a 44-yard touchdown pass from Love with 4 ½ minutes left in the first half. That was Watson’s longest reception of the season.

“It was the perfect route. It wasn’t even in the game plan,” Watson said. “It was something we felt with how they were playing throughout the game we knew if we got a chance to get this defense right here, we knew we’d be able to take the shot.

“As soon as we called it, I don’t want to be cocky or anything, but I knew it was a touchdown just based on how they were playing with their leverages. Really, that’s just hats off to LaFleur putting something in for us to go out there and ball.”

Watson finished the game with three receptions for 68 yards — both were season-highs.

“It’s awesome having Christian out there, just having his speed,” Love said. “The deep threat he is, it’s nice to have him back.”

WELCOME BACK PART II: Disgruntled wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who went AWOL last week and was suspended for the Packers’ win over the Rams, also returned and had a big game.

Doubs had a 10-yard touchdown reception on the first play of the second quarter when he ran an out route and beat Arizona cornerback Garrett Williams to give Green Bay a 14-0 lead.

Then late in the third quarter after the Cardinals had closed within 24-13, Doubs had a terrific 20-yard TD reception. Love was under duress and threw up a prayer for Doubs, who had one-on-one coverage from cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting. Love’s pass was underthrown, but Doubs made a terrific adjustment and hauled in Love’s pass to make it 31-13.

“I’m just ready to be a ballplayer, try to move past whatever has happened and just get back to our winning culture like Green Bay has always been,” Doubs said.
