Kamari Doyle catching the eye with impressive Exeter City loan spell

While Joe Whitworth is getting plenty of plaudits at one end of the pitch, it is another Exeter City loanee that is catching the eye of people at the other end of the field.

Borrowed Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Kamari Doyle took just 34 minutes of his full Grecians debut to make his mark, curling a sublime 25-yard free kick into the top corner of the Bolton Wanderers net to set City on their way to a 2-0 victory. A second goal followed in the 2-0 win over Stevenage, but his goals, skill and vision have certainly not gone unnoticed by the City fans as he makes his mark at St James Park.

“It’s been really enjoyable,” the 19-year-old said, reflecting on the first few weeks of his first loan spell. “I feel like I’ve settled in well. The fans, obviously, the gaffer and all the players have been really nice, really welcoming. I’m enjoying it, enjoying my football. I can’t wait to kick on really.

“It’s been good to get a couple of goals as well. The first goal’s it was obviously really nice to celebrate in front of the fans, I haven’t really experienced that before in my career so far, so a special moment, especially the first one… obviously it was a good goal as well!

“I just remember hitting it and just kind of thinking it was a good strike and it was going to go in. I looked up and I started running before it went in because it was that clean and when I saw it hit the back then I was just buzzing and just wanted to celebrate in front of the fans.”

Doyle’s second goal was the second in that 2-0 win against Stevenage, but no less important. It was in front of the Big Bank as well, taking a touch to an Ilmari Niskanen cross before lashing the ball above the goalkeeper to wrap up another excellent win in the season so far.

“I got into the position, hit it and seen it hit the back of the net and I was just buzzing,” Doyle said. “I was in the front with all the fans in the Big Bank and again, I was just buzzing to celebrate in front of them.”

Doyle has made nine appearances so far for the Grecians since his loan move from the Seagulls where he is yet to feature at first team level. He joined them from Southampton, for whom he debuted as a raw 16-year-old in a 3-1 Premier League defeat at Brighton.
