Davante Adams Trade Rumors Take Unexpected Turn

The Las Vegas Raiders may be ready to shut down trade talks on All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams had requested a trade out of Las Vegas and reports last week indicated that a deal could come together quickly. But after more than a week with no significant progress, the Raiders may be cooling on the idea of trading Adams and ready to keep him on the team.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that the trade market is cooler than the Raiders expected, due in part to the team’s reluctance to sweeten the deal for a trade partner. “Adams has received interest from other teams, but as one source told ESPN, it is not ‘phone-is-ringing-off-the-hook interest’ for the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver,” Schefter wrote.

“That lack of high-level interest has more to do with the Raiders’ asking price — a second-round draft pick and additional compensation — along with the fact Las Vegas has said it doesn’t want to pay any of the money left on Adams’ contract.”

The development was a major change from last week, when Schefter reported that trade talks were “expected to intensify” in the coming days with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints seen as frontrunners to land Adams. Several other teams have been identified as potential suitors for Adams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills.

Insider Provides Latest Update On Davante Adams Trade

The Las Vegas Raiders are no strangers to drama and find themselves in another unenviable situation as they mull over trade offers for Davante Adams.

The star wide receiver reportedly prefers to be traded by the Raiders, a move that seemed to be coming for a while after a couple of tough seasons.

The veteran is currently dealing with a hamstring injury, but that won’t deter receiver-needy teams from inquiring about him and making an offer.

The most notable team linked to Adams is the New York Jets, who have been trying to acquire him for some time.

As things stand in NFL Week 6, no team has been able to meet the Raiders’ asking price, though there is still interest despite Las Vegas’ demands, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

Russini also reported that Las Vegas hasn’t moved off its asking price of a second-round draft choice and wants the acquiring team to pay the entirety of Adams’ remaining 2024 salary.

While New York feels like the most likely landing spot, the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints also reportedly remain interested.

If the Raiders hold firm to their trade demands, the talks to go all the way up to the NFL trade deadline of Nov. 5, after the conclusion of Week 9.
