Fabrizio Romano shares latest developments on Tottenham’s free-transfer target
Tottenham Hotspur have been reportedly keeping a keen eye on the developments surrounding Canadian striker Jonathan David with the possibilities of the 24-year-old leaving his current employers on a free transfer.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano insists that David is expected to bid adieu to Lille on a free transfer next summer as his contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy comes due in less than twelve months. The probables of David leaving on a free transfer have attracted multiple elite clubs from England and Spain as they look to capitalise on the situation.
Tottenham eye free transfer for Jonathan David
Romano emphasised that the 2000-born striker, along with his representatives, will evaluate the possible options closely and consider his next destination based on financial terms, the overall project at the club, and management.
Speaking on The Debrief, the Italian journalist said:
“He [David] will consider several things, not just financially, the project, the managers, so he’s not going to decide now. For sure, he’s having conversations with several clubs, not him, his agent, clubs in England and clubs in Italy, clubs in Spain.
Jonathan David is one of the biggest names on the market for the summer of 2025. Again, before making any decisions, he will take his time, it’s not something for now or something for 2024. Jonathan David will explore his options but for sure I expect him to leave Lille as a free agent.”
Tottenham are looking to replace Richarlison as they look to bring in a commendable back-up to Dominic Solanke, and the Brazil international’s tendency to serve the sidelines on a consistent basis isn’t helping Spurs on any grounds, especially as they look to compete for silverware. \
Meanwhile, David brings a known clinical output complimented by flair and technical ability to the roster at Hotspur Way. And the fact that the club already has well-established links with David in the recently concluded summer window makes him a more attractive prospect for the Lilywhites.
