Newcastle UnitedNewcastle ‘pushing to get Leroy Sane deal over the line’ – Ex-Chief scout

Newcastle United are expected to push for a move to sign Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane when his contract expires at the end of the season.

This is according to former Man United, Sunderland and Tottenham chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Magpies are likely to explore the free agent market amid financial concerns.

Newcastle came close to breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules before big-money sales on 30 June saw them escape without punishment.

However, they are now keen to avoid a similar situation, and will look to be smart in the transfer window, with a move for Sane seen as an opportunity to land a top-class player with no outgoing fee.

Sane, 28, will be free to open talks over a move to St James’ Park in January when he will have just six months remaining on his deal in Munich.

Eddie Howe’s side, meanwhile, are looking to sign a new right-winger as a priority given the lack of quality in that position in his current squad.

Brown has insisted some of England’s elite clubs have remained interested in Sane since his departure from Man City, and could now race for his signature alongside Newcastle.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in recruitment at the top level, has insisted Newcastle will be pushing hard to reach an agreement with the winger as one of their top priorities ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

Given their financial situation as it has been, they’ll be pushing to get this one over the line,” he told Football Insider.

I’ve often wondered why he left City, to be honest, and I know clubs have been tracking him since then.

I’m surprised nobody here took him in the first place before he went to Bayern Munich, but there’s definitely interest.

He’s 28 now and he still looks the type of player that has something to offer at the top level.

I’ve heard Newcastle are among those clubs who will be looking to bring him in, and I’d be surprised if they didn’t at least try to get it done.
