Cardiff City eye manager who last worked at Birmingham City
Cardiff City have ‘sounded’ out Tony Mowbray as a potential managerial candidate, as detailed in a report by The Mirror.
Cardiff City remain in the hunt for a new boss following their decision to part ways with Erol Bulut after their slow start to the Championship season. Omer Riza is in caretaker charge until a permanent successor is found and he has picked up four points from his three games at the helm.
Mowbray, 60, is a vastly experienced operator in the Football League and last worked at Birmingham City. He has overseen 870 games from the dugout in his career.
As per The Mirror, he is on the ‘list’ of targets for the Bluebirds as they carefully weigh up their options. Charlton Athletic’s Nathan Jones is also on their radar, whilst Alex Neil and Steven Schumacher are also ‘interested’ in the vacancy as they both look for a route back into the game.
Cardiff City target Mowbray
Cardiff City could see Mowbray as someone to steady the ship after a tough first couple of months of the campaign.
He has had spells in the past at Hibernian, West Brom, Celtic, Middlesbrough and Coventry City.
Blackburn Rovers turned to him in 2017 and he spent five years at Ewood Park, winning promotion from League One during his time in Lancashire.
Sunderland then landed him and he went on to win 40% of matches during his stint at the Stadium of Light.
Mowbray got the Black Cats into the play-offs before they lost at the semi-finals stage to Luton Town. They were then sat in 9th when he was sacked in 2023.
Birmingham City appointed him during last term but he had to part ways with the Blues due to health issues.
