Hull City star sends message to Tigers faithful after difficult day at the office
The Tigers’ three-game winning run came to a crashing halt in sunny Norfolk on Saturday
Ryan Giles says the Hull City dressing room felt sympathy for the travelling supporters at Norwich City on Saturday, who watched their side thumped 4-0.
Many of the 700-strong away contingent at Carrow Road left East Yorkshire early in the morning for the long trip to Norfolk and returned disappointed after seeing their side well beaten for the first time this season.
Despite carving out a couple of good chances with Chris Bedia heading side from Mohamed Belloumi’s cross and debutant Joao Pedro seeing a goal disallowed for handball, along with Belloumi’s exquisite free-kick cannoning off the bar, Walter’s Tigers were exploited time and time again defensively having found themselves 2-0 down inside the opening 20 minutes, and though City recovered in the second period, two more goals added gloss to the scoreline, while there was also a missed Josh Sargent penalty.
Giles, who has struggled for action in recent weeks, came off the bench in the second half for a rare appearance and praised the supporters for their backing after what was a chastening trip.
“It was a disappointing day in the office and I would just like to apologise to all the fans that have made the travel. I know it is tough and we really appreciate their support. There are no excuses, but sometimes teams have days like this and it’s how we react and bounce back, and we will be back,” he explained. “We really appreciate their support and we all do. It is such a long way to Norwich and we appreciate that. You just wish you could repay them in a way, but it is football at the end of the day. Norwich were good and it is just about us bouncing back to be ready to shout about at the next game.”
The left-back, along with his Tigers colleagues are now in Turkey until Saturday, their third such trip so far in 2024, and Giles, has praised the club and owner Acun Ilicali for giving the players the chance to go away and get some sunshine after an intense first nine games of the campaign.
“We appreciate the club to do it for us,” he explained. “We can get away, get in the sun and spend some time together on the training pitch. It will be different scenery and it is always nice to spend time together which is brilliant, so it will be good. It is early on in the season and you always have the next game to put it right. I appreciate there is a bit of a wait, but all we can do is regroup, go again and put it right the next game.”
