Vikings Elevate Myles Gaskin & Bobby McCain from Practice Squad for Week 5 Against Jets
The Vikings on Saturday elevated running back Myles Gaskin and defensive back Bobby McCain for their Week 5 game against the New York Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Gaskin has spent time on Minnesota’s 53-man roster and the practice squad since joining the Vikings in 2023. He has returned three kickoffs a total of 60 yards and has one offensive carry for minus-3 yards this season. Gaskin was released from the 53-man roster and re-signed to the practice squad on Thursday before Minnesota’s flight to the United Kingdom.
McCain joined Minnesota during training camp. He was elevated from the practice squad in Week 1, playing three snaps on defense and 12 on special teams against the New York Giants. McCain has appeared in 132 career games.
Vikings QB Sam Darnold named NFC Offensive Player of the Month
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold has been one of the biggest and best stories of the entire NFL season thus far, and he’s earned more recognition for his great play. Thursday, Darnold was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September.
It’s the first time Darnold has ever received a player of the month accolade, and he’s the 13th Viking to earn the honor, joining Jake Reed in 1997 as just the second to win it in September. The only other Viking to have won Offensive Player of the Month since the start of 2021 is Justin Jefferson (in November of 2021 and 2022). Darnold has been fantastic in leading the Vikings to a 4-0 start, a first for the franchise since 2016.
He’s thrown for 932 yards and an NFL-leading 11 touchdowns while completing 68.9% of his passes, giving him the highest passer rating in the league
It’s not just that he’s been good, but he’s also setting records. Darnold became the first quarterback in Vikings history to post a passer rating of at least 100 in the first four games of a season. His 11 touchdown passes in that span also trails only Daunte Culpepper’s 13 in 2004 among Vikings quarterbacks through four games of a season.
