Tim Walter: Hull City appoint ex-Hamburg boss as new head coach - BBC Sport

Hull City youngster leaves the club following recent loan spell

Hull City youngster Sam Opoku has left following the end of his scholarship deal, as announced by the official club website.

Hull City’s midfielder has cut ties with the Championship side now and will be weighing up his next move in the game. His deal contract was extended last winter following a torn lateral meniscus injury which saw him sidelined for eight months.

Opoku, 19, was given the green light to head out the MKM Stadium exit door on loan early last month when Beverley Town came calling to get some experience under his belt. He went on to make seven appearances for the Northern Counties East Premier Division outfit to help boost his development.

In this latest update regarding his situation in East Yorkshire, the Tigers have confirmed that he has now left on a permanent basis. It remains to be seen at this stage where he could potentially end up next and he is now a free agent.

Following Opoku’s temporary switch to Beverley Town in early September, Hull City’s Lead PDP Coach Conor Sellars told their website: “It is a brilliant opportunity for Sam to go and experience a men’s environment, fighting for three points and having the pressure to perform.

“Like the other lads who have gone out on loan, as an academy we thought it was the right next step for Sam to go and play men’s football and give him the best opportunity to play football.

“It has not been an easy ride for Sam as he had a really bad injury last year and we have managed to get him back up to speed. He has trained throughout pre-season and worked hard so it is nice for him to go and show his abilities.”

The prospect trained regularly with the Tigers Under-21’s side over recent times, having previously been a key player for their Under-18’s.

He had spells in Italy at Modena and Sassuolo before linking up with the East Yorkshire club.

Opoku wasn’t able to land professional terms in the end though and will now need to find a new home.

The teenager has left behind a Hull City side who are sat in 9th place in the table, three points off the play-offs.

They have won their last three fixtures on the spin against Stoke City, Cardiff City and QPR.

The Tigers are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Norwich City.
