Pittsburgh Steelers sign former Michigan State standout linebacker
The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed linebacker Jacoby Windmon to their practice squad. He fills the spot left behind by running back Aaron Shampklin, who was elevated to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
The Steelers now have 17 players on the practice squad. Pittsburgh has one open spot on their active roster, with outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon being the favorite to fill the void after being designated to return from the injured reserve.
The Steelers released Windmon as part of their cut-downs to the 53-man roster. He received some interest around the NFL, having workouts with the Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns, and Carolina Panthers since his release. He joins veteran Devin Harper as the team inside linebackers the Steelers have on the practice squad. Windmon played more off-ball linebacker in training camp, but can play outside linebacker.
The former Michigan State standout was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft. Windmon, 23, stands at 6-foot-2, 240 pounds. He spent two seasons with the Spartans after transferring from UNLV in 2022, posting 64 tackles and 6.5 sacks over those two years in the Big 10.
Snoop Dogg will be in the house for Sunday Night Football’s matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys at Acrisure Stadium.
Though his exact role in the broadcast is yet to be announced, NBC News reported, the music legend, Paris Olympics host and “The Voice” will attend the game. Snoop Dogg is a huge Steelers fan.
Mike Tirico shared the news late in the first quarter to Cris Collinsworth on NBC’s broadcast this past Sunday, Steelers Depot reported.
“I’m pumped. Everybody at NBC knows him except me,” Collinsworth said. “I’ve never met the man.”
A video featuring Snoop Dogg was aired during the broadcast as well that teased his upcoming appearance in the Steel City.
“My blood runs black and gold,” he said, Steelers Depot reported. “So let me tell you, there’s 50 years of animosity about to boil off. Cowboys’ offense? They’re exciting … but the Steelers defense is so powerful, you wanna run home crying.”
The game between two rival teams will begin with kickoff at 8:20 p.m. It will be the second home game of the season for the Steelers.
