Brentford v Wolves early injury news as 12 out and 3 doubts

Wolves remain on the search for their first win of the Premier League season as they face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Wolves along with Crystal Palace and Leicester City are yet to win a game this season. Gary O’Neil’s men are rock bottom of the league after conceding 16 goals in their opening six games, the most of any team in the division.

At the weekend, Wolves lost 2-1 to Liverpool, as Mohamed Salah restored the Reds’ lead after Rayan Ait-Nouri had cancelled out Ibrahima Konate’s opener. Brentford raced in to a first minute lead against West Ham through Bryan Mbuemo but Tomas Soucek equalised nine minutes in to the second-half.

It’s early days until the two sides meet in West London, but both GON and Thomas Frank have lengthy injury lists to contend with. Here’s the latest injury news from both camps prior to their pre-match press conferences.

Wolves are short on centre-back options following Yerson Mosquera suffered a serious knee injury against Aston Villa. Craig Dawson didn’t play in the defeat to Liverpool because of illness, and Santiago Bueno suffered an injury to his glute, asking to be brought off in the latter stages of the game.

Boubacar Traore injured his knee in the win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup and required surgery. Gary O’Neil said he was on crutches in September, and he’s expected to be out for the remainder of 2024.

Teenage defender Bastien Meupiyou is yet to make his debut after joining from Nantes. He won’t be rushed in to making an appearance, and is out until at least the international break, having arrived with an injury. Enso Gonzalez ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, and is sidelined for most of the season. Sasa Kalajdzic is another player that won’t be seen for a few months, as he tore the cruciate and lateral ligaments in his right knee when out on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Out: Yerson Mosquera, Boubacar Traore, Bastien Meupiyou, Enso Gonzalez, and Sasa Kalajdzic. Doubt: Craig Dawson, and Santiago Bueno.

Brentford team news

Yoanne Wissa was a reported target for Wolves in the summer, but away supporters won’t be able to see what they could have won, as he’s sidelined with an ankle injury. The forward suffered the injury when challenged by Mateo Kovacic, and Thomas Frank is expecting to be without him until November.

Speaking to the official club website, Frank said: “Wissa is, unfortunately, not good news: it looks like an injury that will be a couple of months.

“It’s very frustrating. We talked about our many injuries last year, I hope I don’t have to talk too much about it this year, I maybe already have.

“Wissa had a very good season last year and I thought he has started the season very well this year, with three goals in four games, that’s a very good number.”

Igor Thiago suffered a meniscus injury on his debut for the Bees and is sidelined for the remainder of the year. He’s said to be making progress but is not yet doing any grass work.

Josh Dasilva suffered a significant knee injury in training in February, and is sidelined. Rico Henry has missed 12 months of football after suffering the second serious knee of his career in September 2023.
