Nottingham Forest 2-3 Brighton: Sub Joao Pedro scores match-winning double despite bizarre Lewis Dunk red card | Football News | Sky Sports

Nottingham Forest took a very credible point from the trip to Brighton on Sunday to maintain an unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

The Reds drew 2-2 with the nature of the performance soured somewhat after a red card for Morgan Gibbs-White with just under 10 minutes remaining.

The Forest attacker was dismissed after a reckless tackle on Joao Pedro – although referee Rob Jones initially signalled that Gibbs-White had played the ball.

Still, he was swayed by fourth official Anthony Taylor – who is no stranger to controversy – to change his mind and issue a second yellow card to Gibbs-White.

The man who had started the game as captain for Forest will now miss Saturday’s home game against Fulham and that provides a conundrum for Nuno Espirito Santo

Premier League drop biggest hint yet that Rob Jones blundered on Sunday

The referee initially looked to be capable of making his own decision. He signalled straight away that Gibbs-White played the ball and was happy to continue with a throw-in.

Moments later, Gibbs-White was walking down the tunnel, with Espirito Santo and Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler also sent packing.

Now, the Premier League have dropped the biggest hint yet that Jones cocked up on Sunday after releasing their appointments for the weekend

Jones isn’t on a game at all this weekend in the top flight, he isn’t using VAR anywhere and he’s not even been summonsed to the EFL!

That is the clearest indication yet that Jones’ performance in the closing stages at the weekend wasn’t up to standard.

It looks likely that the Premier League haven’t looked kindly on Jones for changing his mind and going with Taylor’s call who was merely acting as fourth official

Nobody is asking for the referees who make blundering mistakes to be thrown in prison but there must be more accountability for mistakes of this nature.

The Premier League have done well to remove Jones from proceedings this weekend and he will be gutted not to be involved in doing a job he loves

Forest will likely have received another apology from Howard Webb to go with several others and on this occasion at least it didn’t cost the Reds.

The Premier League when it comes to officials has become too much of a closed shop and once these guys make the step up they stay there regardless.

In our view, a league table system – order of merit if you will – would be ideal when it comes to ensuring that the very best officials are taking charge of games in a league often deemed the best in the worldMorgan Gibbs-White the star as Nottingham Forest boost survival hopes | beIN SPORTS

Gibbs-White was sent off for a second yellow card and could face a further ban if found guilty of improper conduct.

In the short term, Forest must find a quick fix for their influential player this weekend and a number of players will be in the running to play.

Ramon Sosa scored his maiden goal for Forest at Brighton, with Jota Silva teeing up his teammate to equalise for the Reds.

Elsewhere, Evangelos Marinakis pushed for Elliot Anderson to sign in the summer as he thinks he could be a long-term Gibbs-White replacement.
