Guardians Hope To Have An ‘October To Remember’

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - AUGUST 20: Lane Thomas #8 of the Cleveland Guardians hits a RBI double in the twelfth inning against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on August 20, 2024 in New York City.

The Cleveland Guardians not only made the postseason this week, but they also secured the AL Central title on Saturday night.

At 90-66, they boast the second-best record in the American League and are close to securing a first-round bye.

It’s easy to forget, given the current success of the team, where it all started.

It’s easy to forget, given the current success of the team, where it all started.

The folks at MLB Network posted a cool video about the Guardians’ 2024 and what led to this incredibly consistent showing of quality baseball.

“Cleveland, you will have an October to remember!” The story of the 2024 AL Central champion @CleGuardians,” they posted.

Before the beginning of the year, there was uncertainty surrounding the fate of the franchise: a Hall of Fame manager, Terry Francona, was stepping down after 11 seasons at the helm.

The video recollects the hiring of Stephen Vogt as the new manager and how he stated that his goal was to get everyone who wore a Cleveland Guardians uniform ‘knows exactly what it means to be a Cleveland Guardian’.

It’s safe to say he has achieved that, and then some, and we are not talking exclusively about the players.

Yes, the ballplayers have regained a sense of identity towards the franchise and the uniform, but so have the fans that go to Progressive Field every night to cheer for the team.

After the failed 2023, fans have regained their trust on the team and the enthusiasm to follow it.

The video depicts the unfortunate Shane Bieber injury and how the organization showed trust on other pitchers stepping up.

Now, the idea is to have an ‘October to Remember’, just as it happened in those brilliant mid-to-late 2010s or in 2022.

This team has what it takes to make some noise in the postseason.

Will they?
