The latest on Kentucky Basketball’s Recruitment of 5-Star Caleb Wilson
5-star and top 10 recruit Caleb Wilson visited Kentucky on the weekend of September 14. Earlier this week, we posted about how exciting that visit was and how much it seems he’s leaning toward the Wildcats and Mark Pope now. However, his recruitment only got more interesting this week. Current 5-start commit Jasper Johnson is actively trying to recruit him on X.
This is unimportant as recruits try to team up with other top players and friends they have seen in AAU and other basketball camps. However, it’s Wilson’s replies to this tweet. He had two different replies, which is essential for Kentucky basketball recruiting fans. The first was just the acknowledgment of their friendship in “My Guy
The second was more directed towards the team-up idea. He responded with a blue and white heart.
Now, there wasn’t much to update, and this post wouldn’t exist with only these tweets. It’s purely recruis being recruits and friends, but it has continued to evolve. Less than an hour later, he sent out this tweet:
Acaden Lewis is another top Kentucky target and, depending on the rankings, another 5-star (some have him as a 4-star) and a top 50 recruit. The eyes typically mean something like “Should we?” or “Woah” or “Did you see that?” The original tweet that Jasper Johnson sent out referenced a team up of these 3 top recruits.
Pope was in to visit Wilson again yesterday, trying to push the ball over the line and get Wilson to commit. They are giving him the full-court press and the energy to prioritize him as a top recruit for their 2025 class.
I think Pope senses that Wilson is close to committing to Kentucky. This is not simply because of these tweets, for that could just be high school players knowing they will get a reaction on X. Wilson also seems close because he has moved up his commitment date.
Finally, one more piece of 2025 recruiting updates is that Pope has still prioritized top Center Chris Cenac, and just this week, it was tweeted that Pope was in to visit him.
A lot is happening in the 2025 recruiting class, and Coach Pope has decided to make a huge splash in his first recruiting cycle. He already has 2 top 20 recruits committed in Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno. He wants to have one of the best recruiting classes in the country
A week after losing 31-6 at home to unranked South Carolina, the Kentucky Wildcats gave No. 1 ranked Georgia all it could handle at Kroger Field Saturday, but the Bulldogs found a way to eke out a 13-12 victory for its 42nd straight regular-season victory and 15th straight head-to-head win over the UK.
Kentucky took a 6-3 lead into halftime and led the Bulldogs 9-6 going into the fourth quarter but could not hold on as Georgia was able to score the lone touchdown of the game with 12:20 left to play, while all 12 of UK’s points came on field goals.
“Really proud of our players the way they fought and competed. I thought our coaches did a really good job this week, as you can imagine, very challenging week coming off the way we performed seven days ago in this stadium,” UK head coach Mark Stoops said postgame.
