Leeds United absence will be ‘huge blow’ ahead of Cardiff City clash as bold Daniel Farke claim made
Leeds United return to action tomorrow with a long trip to Cardiff City offering the chance to renew optimism in West Yorkshire. Daniel Farke’s side suffered a first defeat of the season at home to Burnley last weekend and sit ninth, but this early point of the campaign means victory could easily pull them back into the play-off places.
Daniel Farke has not lost the dressing room despite pressure on his job at Leeds United, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the boss retains the backing of his players despite fans’ frustrations growing at Elland Road.
Pressure from the crowd has been ramping up since Leeds’ playoff final defeat to Southampton last season, and many feel the boss should have been dismissed after the game.
However, he has retained the backing of the board throughout the summer and into the new season despite calls from the supporters.
Sources have told Football Insider that the boss retains the backing of the players and the board despite a turbulent start to the season.
Defeats against Burnley and Middlesbrough, and draws against West Brom and Portsmouth have seen Leeds win just two of their opening five games – against Hull and Sheffield Wednesday.

A slow start to the new season has raised questions about Farke’s long-term future at Elland Road, but with the board and players on side, he is set to remain in his position at least for the immediate future.
The team suffered a similarly slow start last season before finding form in November which saw them come close to an automatic promotion place, although they ultimately fell in the playoff final.
However, they have won just four of their last 15 competitive fixtures following a late-season capitulation last time out.
After heading into the new season with expectations of challenging for the title if not automatic promotion, fans are already seeing those hopes slip away.
Many fans have struggled to get back on board with backing Farke after the playoff defeat, with promotion this season a must.
The backing of his players will prove crucial in the boss’ attempts to turn around their turbulent form, while some of the new arrivals are still adapting to life at Elland Road.
There is confidence on the Leeds board that Farke will be the man to lead them back to the Premier League, but noise from the crowd may become tough to ignore.
