Wonderkid wanted by Nottingham Forest will sign contract with £95m release clause
Nottingham Forest enjoyed an exceptional transfer window during the summer ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
The Reds signed eleven new players, with two of them joining Olympiacos on a season-long loan, and over 20 players were cut from the squad.
Forest binned the scattergun approach to transfers and instead opted for a streamlined approach with George Syrianos spearheading the business.
It would appear that the club targeted other players but didn’t manage to get them over the line.
Santiago Gimenez was a striker that Forest really liked but he had a change of heart on a number of occasions.
Another player was Eddie Nketiah but a chat with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner tempted him to stay in London instead.
Nottingham Forest-linked Riquelme Filippi to sign new contract
It’s been claimed by Globo Esporte that Forest tried to sign the Palmeiras youngster in the summer but couldn’t tempt the club into a sale.
Forest have a track record of shopping in Brazil, with Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa previously joining from Palmeiras.
However, an offer of £5 million was well short of what the club wanted to recoup for their 18-year-old talent and stood firm.
Now, the player is going to be rewarded with a new contract and a release clause worth around £95 million.
Naturally, Palmeiras will accept offers that are considerably less but that level of protection pretty much means they can demand whatever they want for Filippi.
As the talented player has only recently turned 18, he wouldn’t have actually been able to sign for Forest until January 2025 at the earliest but it feels like Palmeiras want to keep him anyway.
Filippi one to watch for Forest in the future
The interest in the player who normally plays on the left wing is all the more intriguing considering he’s never played a senior game of football.
Filippi is coming through the ranks at some speed and has netted eight goals for the under-20 outfit in 2024.
Perhaps Forest were keen to sign the player with one eye on the future and have him in and around the first-team – much like they have done with Eric da Silva Moreira.
One way or another this now looks like a very tricky deal to do from a Forest perspective.
The Reds will have to dig seriously deep to land the teenager and it feels like Palmeiras have big plans for him going forward.
For now, this is one to watch, and it will be interesting to see how he performs following Premier League interest from Forest.
