‘Incredible’ – Newcastle United co-owner blown away by what £41m duo did vs Wolves
Trailing 1-0 from Mario Lemina’s 36th minute opener, the Magpies were on course to suffer their first defeat of the new 2024-25 season. However, Fabian Schar and substitute Harvey Barnes had other ideas.
Schar drew United level in the 75th minute when he unleashed a strike from 30 yards. There was a slight slice of luck with his shot deflecting off Craig Dawson but take nothing away. After all, the Swiss is known for scoring a screamer or two per season.
If there were any doubts over whether Schar’s goal was a corker, then the same definitely can’t be said for Barnes. Cutting inside on the right, the former Leicester City man produced a trademark finish to curls the ball into the top corner.
Both goals earned the praise of many, including co-owner Jamie Reuben. Positing on X, he wrote: “Two incredible goals @fabianschaer@harveybarnes97 – thank you to our travelling supporters, safe trip home @NUFC”.
The result saw Eddie Howe’s side move up to third in the Premier League with their 10 points from a possible 12 equalling in their best start to a top-flight campaign since 1995/96 under Kevin Keegan.
“The fixture list is never easy, every game in the Premier League is always difficult,” added Howe. Four points from Wolves and Bournemouth is good and we go away to Fulham next.
“I think it is a great platform for us. Confidence is always the key ingredient in any sporting team. Hopefully by winning in the manner that we are those confidence levels will continue to grow.
“There’s no doubting the quality of players we have, albeit small in numbers so we can’t afford to lose anybody. Fingers crossed we’ve come through that OK.”
