Bristol City player ratings vs Blackburn: Armstrong pick of bunch after disappointing defeat
Individual mistakes proved too costly for Bristol City, who fell to a 3-0 defeat by Blackburn Rovers. The ratings are in.
Max O’Leary – 5
Didn’t look comfortable at all on the ball throughout the game. That was shown after 20 minutes when his poor miss-timed pass was straight at Lewis Travis, who slotted past the City keeper. It was an uncharacteristic display from O’Leary and one he’ll want to forget quickly.
George Tanner – 5
Failed to make any attacking inroads during a difficult first-half performance. He struggled with the Rovers’ attack in the second half and was passed on a number of occasions on the right-hand side during a tough outing in the second period.
Not the best start to his debut when he was caught in a 2v1 situation and brought down Yuki Ohashi, which saw him go into referee Steven Martin’s book after just 11 minutes. The City backline was continuously opened up by the dangerous Rovers attack in the first half.
Zak Vyner – 6
Was the better of the two centre-back making a few chances with long balls forward. Put his body on the line on a number of occasions. However, Ohashi provided a real problem for both central defenders.
Cameron Pring – 5 (replaced on 59 minutes)
Had to deal with a large part of Blackburn’s attack in the first half. He did look bright going forward in spells and tried to create openings on the left flank. He was one of three changes after Rovers’ second as Manning looked to control the host’s threat.
Max Bird – 6
Similar to Knight, where he tried to link the midfield to the forward line. But he struggled at times and dropped in to a holding role midway through the second half.
Mark Sykes – 5 (Replaced on 59 minutes)
Was a very disappointing showing from Sykes. He looked very quiet throughout the conest and couldn’t make any impact from the wing. He was beaten on a number of occasions by Rovers left-back Owen Beck and was taken off on the hour mark.
Scott Twine – 5
An unusually quiet display from the summer arrival. He couldn’t make an impact the game at all in the first half but did look better when he moved into the number 10 role. He had two amazing chances to pull a goal back for City with the score 2-0 but failed to convert from close range.
Fally Mayulu – 5 (Replaced on 46 minutes)
Despite being given a chance to lead the line in the league for the first time, he couldn’t get into at all and looked isolated for a large period of the first half. Although he won a few long balls, they came to no avail, with no option near him.
Sinclair Armstrong – 7 (On at 46 minutes)
Unlucky not to start after a goal during the international break for the Republic of Ireland under-21s. He looked lively and used his pace and power to good effect at times in the second period. Was one of the better players of the afternoon.
