‘Will cause problems’ – Watford vs Coventry City prediction: The72

Watford return to Championship action this weekend with a clash against Coventry City at Vicarage Road.

Watford were beaten 1-0 away at Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in their last outing before the international break. That was their first defeat from their opening four league fixtures.

They had won their first opening three games on the spin against Millwall, Stoke City and Derby County before their defeat to the Blades. The Hornets will now be eager to bounce back with a positive result on Saturday.

Coventry City's strongest starting XI after the summer window

As for Coventry City, they have four points on the board so far and it has been a slow start to the campaign by their standards. They are hoping to get into the play-offs this term after missing out last time around.

Mark Robins’ side were beaten 1-0 at home by Norwich City last time out so will be keen to bounce back. They boosted their squad with the signings of Jack Rudoni, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Oliver Dovin, among others, over the summer.

The Sky Blues lost in the play-off final back in 2023 after losing to Luton Town on penalties at Wembley.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

“Watford have looked strong so far this season, despite their loss at Sheffield United last time out, and will want to return to winning ways this weekend.

“Tom Cleverley has done a steady job with the Hornets since taking over in the last campaign and his side are carrying momentum at the moment.

“Coventry City have begun slowly again this term and need to hit some form over the coming weeks. They have the quality in their squad to cause problems for any side but they have taken a while to get going again.

“I’m edging more towards a home win here as I think the hosts will cause problems for the visitors in Hertfordshire.”
