In place of the injured McCaffrey, Jordan Mason ran all over the New York defense to the tune of 147 yards, while Rodgers (167 yards, one touchdown, one interception) never truly found a rhythm against Bosa and San Francisco’s vaunted defensive unit.

While the Niners’ Week 1 matchup against the Jets was appointment viewing heading in, Bosa believes his squad is in for a much tougher test when his club travels to Minnesota for a Week 2 showdown.
<figure

29 days, four questions: Diving into Nick Bosa's holdout from 49ers - ESPN - San Francisco 49ers Blog- ESPN

When it comes to the Niners and Vikings tilt on Sunday afternoon, San Francisco’s All-Pro tight end, George Kittle believes even if McCaffrey were to return to the lineup, Mason has earned more snaps, something that can help alleviate any further injuries to the perennial All-Pro and Pro Bowl tailback.

”He’s a dense, sturdy guy and he just runs downhill very physically,” Kittle noted of Mason. “Hopefully he can just keep doing that and there’ll be a very good substitute for Christian so we don’t have to play Christian for 100 snaps a game.”

On the other side of the field, it’ll be a bit of a revenge game for Vikings signal caller, Sam Darnold. Last season, Darnold put his starting aspirations on hold to sit behind Brock Purdy and got a taste of what it’s like to be in a well-oiled machine for the first-time in his up-and-down career. Purdy noted that Darnold was an integral part of the Niners’ success in 2023, despite being in a backup role.

”He helped me tremendously with my prep and we all bounced ideas off each other and what we could get and what we need to be aware of,” Purdy praised of Darnold. “Sam contributed so much to our success as a team, man.”

Darnold (208 yards, two touchdowns) lit up the New York Giants in his debut with the Vikings in Week 1. Most of Darnold’s damage came in the first-half, which was pretty much out of reach by the halftime whistle.

Bosa, Purdy, and the Niners look to continue their hot start when they travel to Minnesota to play Darnold’s Vikings (1-0) on Sunday afternoon (1:00 p.m. EDT/10:00 a.m. PDT) on FOX.
