Jordan Addison Has a New Ankle Issue - Daily Norseman

Vikings might have revealed status of Jordan Addison vs. 49ers with recent move

The Minnesota Vikings were fortunate to escape their Week 1 win over the New York Giants without any major injuries. However, that doesn’t mean the team didn’t get a little banged up in the one-sided contest on Sunday.

During training camp and the preseason, Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison dealt with an ankle injury that kept him out of action. Although he could suit up against the Giants, he exited the game and did not return.

Minnesota shared that Addison is dealing with “significant ankle soreness” and the young receiver should be considered day-to-day and he manages that soreness and hopes to be ready for Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Vikings seem to be preparing for the possibility that their No. 2 receiver might not be able to suit up. Minnesota made a transaction recently, adding pass-catcher Jeshaun Jone to their practice squad according to the team’s official website.

An undrafted free agent in 2024, Jones was a member of the Maryland Terrapins. In 48 collegiate games, the six-foot-one receiver caught 151 passes for 2.040 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding 20 carries for 188 yards and two more scores.

While Jeshaun Jones wouldn’t be a replacement for Jordan Addison in Week 2, he would provide some depth if he is elevated from the practice squad and Addison is named inactive for the upcoming game.

Addison had a solid Week 1 game against the Giants, catching three of the four passes thrown his way by quarterback Sam Darnold for 35 yards. He was Minnesota’s second-highest receiver on the day, behind only superstar Justin Jefferson, who hauled in four catches for 58 yards and one touchdown.

Despite not having star running back Christian McCaffrey available in Week 1, the 49ers dismantled the New York Jets on Monday Night Football and should present a massive challenge for the Vikings in front of the crowd at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Of course, it would be optimal if Jordan Addison’s ankle soreness subsides enough for him to be able to play on Sept. 15 but forcing him into the lineup if he isn’t healed would not be wise for the Minnesota Vikings’ long term plans this season. For that reason, fans should be keeping a close eye on Addison’s situation leading up to Sunday’s game.
