Bruins will suffer another season-ending injury following the addition of two Hockey stars on the Injury list
Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is recovering from three surgeries this summer but hopes to be ready for training camp later this month.
Marchand, 36, had procedures on his elbow (torn tendon) and groin and for a sports hernia in his abdominal area.
“I didn’t do a whole lot of training until about two weeks ago. So I’m just kind of getting back into it,” Marchand said on Tuesday. “… The goal is to try to be ready for camp or, if not, very shortly after. But I’m just kind of getting back in the swing of things now.”
The veteran winger is entering his 16th season with the Bruins. He recorded 67 points (29 goals, 38 assists) while playing all 82 games in 2023-24, adding 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 11 playoff games.
The four-time All-Star and 2011 Stanley Cup champion ranks fifth in franchise history in goals (401) and points (929), sixth in games (1,029) and seventh in assists (528).
The Bruins are scheduled to begin training camp on Sept. 18. Their first preseason game is on Sept. 22 against the New York Rangers.
Brad Marchand is a polarizing player. However, when it comes to the Boston Bruins, there is no doubt that he is beloved for all he has done with the franchise.
Recently, Marchand had to undergo three surgeries. These surgeries were on his elbow, his groin, and his abdomen. He has had to make a quick recovery, and now, he is back on the ice. He even took part in a captain’s skate with the Bruins, where he got to show off where he is with his rehab.
Unfortunately, according to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, he does not look very good. In his mind, Marchand appears to have lot a bit of a step. While he isn’t jumping the gun just yet, he does believe some concern needs to be shown surrounding Marchand. This is especially true since the veteran forward is beginning to get up there in age.
The season starts in just over a month from now, so there is time for Marchand to get back to 100 percent. However, it remains to be seen if he will be able to do so. If you are a Bruins fan, you can’t help but be at least a little worried about all of this.
Reports emerging in mid-August claimed former Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic had signed with the New Jersey Devils in an attempt to return to the NHL ahead of next season. That information, however, could be wrong as the aforementioned reports have been dismissed as false by New Jersey Hockey Now reporter James Nichols, who got in touch with the Devils organization to confirm the story’s veracity.
“Categorically untrue,” Nichols quoted a Devils’ spokesperson telling him on X on September 5. “His situation lies with the league. We haven’t and couldn’t sign him to a PTO. Apparently, Stauffer corrected t on his hit later n the day.” Nichols went the distance to refute the original story, which originated from Edmonton Oilers radio commentator Bob Stauffer. Stauffer was the first to suggest that Lucic was about to sign a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the Devils ahead of training camp.
