Wrexham star Paul Mullin made first start of season
PHIL PARKINSON has allayed fears that star striker Paul Mullin suffered an injury set-back against
After making his return last month, Mullin got three substitute appearances under his belt and was handed a first start of the season in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Salford in the Football League Trophy group game at The Racecourse.
He appeared to be in discomfort on the sidelines but Parkinson says there was no issue.
“Mulls was always going to do 65 minutes whatever the score,” said the Reds’ boss.
“It was about us making sure that his progression was right and there was no way he was going to go more than that.
“Mulls is a key player for us and we needed him to come through the game.
“He looked great. He looked in good shape and physically he is getting there.”
Mullin, who scored 105 goals in his first three seasons at The Racecourse, opened his account for the campaign with a sensational strike following good work by Sebastian Revan.
“I was so pleased. It was a typical Paul goal, a great finish,” added Parkinson, who saw Mullin celebrate by wearing a Deadpool mask.
“Seb did brilliant breaking through the midfield and slid Mulls in but there was still a lot to do.
“More importantly for Paul, he felt in good shape and he worked hard; he needed to do that to get the benefit of the match practice and the goal is a bonus.
“We know he scores but it was important to take him a step closer to getting ready to start a league game.”
