Commanders Signed the 2-Time Super Bowl Champion quarterback with the aim of bolstering the squad depth

The Washington Commanders have some solid pieces in place; however, they are starting a rookie left tackle to protect rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ blindside. This could get quite risky if you combine Brandon Coleman’s inexperience in the league with the slender frame of Daniels. One missed assignment, and the season is down the tubes.

Bleacher Report released an article suggesting that the Commanders could shore up their offensive line by signing two-time Super Bowl champion left tackle Donovan Smith. “Washington does have some question marks at offensive tackle heading into the campaign as rookie third-round pick Brandon Coleman is the team’s starting left tackle,” B/R wrote. “While Coleman could pan out and become a quality blindside protector, it’d be smart to bring in a veteran insurance policy to make sure Jayden Daniels stays upright. “That’s exactly what Smith could bring as a 10-year pro and two-time Super Bowl champion. Worst case, he serves as a mentor for the TCU Product.”

It is certainly an interesting proposition. However, we believe that Coleman will show a little something and be just fine … but that the weakest link on the Commanders line is right tackle Andrew Wiley. The Commanders will scour through all the possibilities quickly if they feel they can upgrade. Washington will travel to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET.

After missing out on Brandon Aiyuk, how about a Washington Commanders’ consolation prize of Davante Adams? That’s the bold – if not altogether irrational – prediction of ESPN analyst Mina Kimes, who this week said the Las Vegas Raiders’ star receiver would be traded to Washington by mid-season.

Said Kimes, “The Commanders strike me as a team that are going to be like just feisty enough to want to do this.” Adams seems to be butting heads in Las Vegas with new head coach Antonio Pierce, and is reportedly not thrilled that the team’s two top quarterbacks are Aiden O’Connell and Gardner Minshew. The receiver’s best seasons were with Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers, and so the New York Jets have been consistently mentioned as a potential trade partner with the Raiders. But Kimes brings up Washington, in the wake of Commanders’ target Aiyuk re-signing with the San Francisco 49ers. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels goes into Sunday’s season opener at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a receiving corps of Terry McLaurin, Dyami Brown, Olamide Zaccheaus and newly acquired Noah Brown.
