Stoke City’s search for a new striker has reportedly switched to a man Down Under, with various reports claiming they are keen on 19-year-old Australian Thomas Waddingham.
Stoke retain an interest in both Leicester City’s Tom Cannon and Fulham’s Jay Stansfield, despite the Cottagers insisting he will remain with them. However, with the window running down, Steven Schumacher and Co are looking further afield – even as far as the A-League, it is believed.
A TEAMtalk “exclusive” claims Waddingham is regarded as one of the finest young players to emerge from Australia in recent years. They add: “The powerful striker burst onto the scene for Brisbane Roar last year, scoring four goals in the Australia Cup, becoming the youngest ever goalscorer in the finals of that competition aged just 18 years and 186 days.”

However, with strikers being hot property in the Championship as the clock runs down on the summer window, Stoke could have competition for the Australia youth international. It is reported that both Stoke and Hull City have registered an interest in the player
The TEAMtalk report adds: “Waddingham also scored seven goals in his debut A-League season, finishing just one behind Nestory Irankunda who set a record as the highest-scoring teenager in a single A-League season.” Irankunda has since joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich
