Tottenham hijack Archie Gray from under Brentford's nose

Report explains how Tottenham swooped in with eleventh-hour hijack of £30m rated English talent.

Tottenham Hotspur have acquired some quite talented players with his potential this summer as Daniel Levy continues to explore the market to sign high-ceiling young players and shape them as per Ange Postecoglou’s playing style in the long run.

This is a transfer strategy that has worked quite magnificently at Arsenal, and the Lilywhites would be hoping it creates a similar impact at White Hart Lane in the medium and long run.

Spurs signed Archie Gray in a last-minute transfer from Leeds United in a £30m deal. It was a transfer that came out of the blue as the North Londoners acted in silence to snatch the teenager away from Brentford. It was a classic hijack by Levy that has the potential to be talked about for years to come.

The 18-year-old enjoyed a really good breakthrough season at Elland Road last season as he took up to the championship seamlessly while playing out of position. He featured in the right-back role for Leeds; however, he is primarily a midfielder.

From not a priority to summer’s first signing.

Tottenham have got a high potential talent in their ranks; however, he was not considered a priority at Hotspur Way initially, though the club changed their mind, per The Telegraph.

The report states that while Spurs were fans of Gray, they didn’t identify him as a top target heading into the ongoing summer transfer window. However, just when he was about to move to Brentford, Tottenham quickly caught a whiff and made moves to acquire his signatures.

The Lilywihtes supporters signing about Archie Gray will have to thank Brentford, especially if he goes on to have a massive season under Ange Postecoglou.

This gives mixed feelings about the club’s priority. However, it also shows that Levy acted fast to a market opportunity to ensure that Tottenham sign a player who can be the central figure at N17 for years to come.
