Wanderers were busy early, signing Rodrigo Gomes, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima. They followed Tommy Doyle turning his loan move from Manchester City permanent.

And it looks as though Wolves now have eyes on a Portuguese midfielder currently playing in Spain.

Wolves interested in Valencia midfielder Andre Almeida, he could cost £10-13m.

It has been reported by Spanish publication AS today that Wolves are one of a few clubs to have made steps to sign Andre Almeida from Valencia.

He is part of the Gestifute Agency, and is apparently thinking about a change of scenery this summer.

He is said to have proposals from Wolves, and also clubs in Italy and Germany.

Almeida joined Valencia in 2022 from Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes. To date, he has clocked up 56 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and making six assists.

Currently, Almeida is down in the pecking order at Valencia, after spending half of last season out injured. He picked up a back injury, and was limited to just 18 appearances in La Liga.

AS say that Jorge Mendes, who heads Gestifute, is currently studying the proposals for Almeida and will soon decide on a next destination for the player.

Almeida is actually a player Wolves have been linked with before. In May 2022, it was claimed that Wanderers, managed by Bruno Lage at the time, were considering a move for the youngster amid uncertainty over the futures of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.

So Wolves are claimed to have made a proposal for Almeida, which is interesting because on the face it, Gary O’Neil doesn’t need a new midfielder right now.

He has some solid options including Mario Lemina, Joao Gomes, Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore, with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde also able to operate in a variety of midfield roles.

O’Neil can also sometimes play with a number 10, so Matheus Cunha or Pablo Sarabia can also operate in the middle.

Then there are youngsters like Luke Cundle and Joe Hodge, although both could head out on loan for 2024/25.

At the moment, there does not seem to be a particularly big need for a new midfield. If someone departed – Traore would probably be the most likely, amid interest from RC Lens – then perhaps Wolves moving for Almeida would make more sense.
