Anthony Gordon has praised ‘unbelievable’ defender now linked with big money Newcastle move.

Agent Anthony Gordon was in place in the England camp during Euro 2024 and got friendly with Newcastle United’s latest alleged transfer target.

It was today claimed by The Athletic that Newcastle had opened discussions with Crystal Palace over a deal for England centre-back Marc Guehi.

The 24-year-old is a huge player for Palace and England and as such is likely to cost Newcastle in excess of £60 million according to Keith Downie.

However, going off his form at Euro 2024, he’d be worth every penny, especially when he gets to forge a defensive partnership with Sven Botman when the Dutchman returns to action.

Anthony Gordon says Marc Guehi is ‘unbelievable’
It’s far from a foregone conclusion that Newcastle will seal the deal. We may be at the front of the queue but we expect some other big names to enter the race before anything is agreed.

However, during the Euros when Newcastle were tentatively linked to Guehi, Anthony Gordon was asked in a TalkSPORT interview what he thought of the big centre-back joining Newcastle as reported in The Shields Gazette.

“He is top. He’s such a good player. I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he is such a lovely guy and he deserves what is coming to him.

“I thought he was unbelievable in that game, considering his height compared to the strikers they had on. He won every header, he was aggressive, intercepting loads, and his main strength is his composure on the ball, he’s like a midfielder, so him and Stones at the back is a great partnership.

“I haven’t seen the Newcastle links but it goes without saying I would love him to come, as I think he’s a top, top player and he would make us a better team.”

Let’s hope Agent Gordon took his cue and got to work
Fingers crossed that after Gordon had learned about Newcastle’s interest, he got to work on the Palace man, dropping hints about how amazing it is playing for Newcastle.

It shouldn’t be too much of a hard sell for the Magpies as Guehi has also named St James’ Park as his favourite stadium to play in, and that is as part of a visiting team.

All we have to do is tell him just how much better it will be with the Toon Army at his back and he should be sold.
