Brandon Thomas-Asante has signed for Coventry City

Brandon Thomas-Asante has mapped out his Coventry City intentions after sealing transfer.

Coventry City completed the signing of Brandon Thomas-Asante from West Brom on Thursday.

Brandon Thomas-Asante has shared his excitement at completing a move to Coventry City ahead of the new Championship season – and outlined his ambitions of leading the Sky Blues to the Premier League. The striker joined City on Thursday, from under the noses of Hull City, from rivals West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year contract upon arrival.

The Baggies’ top goalscorer in each of the last two seasons – one of those goals came at the CBS Arena against the Sky Blues back in October – Thomas-Asante has taken well to life in the Championship, having been plucked from League Two Salford City in the summer of 2022.

He has begun this pre-season well too, netting for Albion in friendly meetings against Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United, and arrives at the Sky Blue Lodge in good form and in good health. In all, Thomas-Asante netted 21 goals for Albion in 78 appearances and will hope to build on that scoring record while wearing sky blue.

Already, the affable Thomas-Asante, who’ll compete for places in the final third alongside the likes of Ellis Simms, Haji Wright, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and new signings Epron Mason-Clark and Raphael Rodrigues, has outlined his wish to experience top flight football and indicated that that is very much the aim of all who’ll be playing under Mark Robins this term.

“It’s really exciting,” he said of his move. “It holds a lot of prospects for an exciting chapter. It’s an exciting new start in my career. On the club, there’s such a rich history. Growing up, I’ve been able to hear of and see, being close at hand and not too far away, what has been done in recent times.

“Knowing that there has been so much success and the potential for success to contribute to…there’s definitely a very clear trajectory. I’m hoping we can make things happen and the Premier League is where we want to go. Seeing myself in this kit is a sign of positive things to come.

“I can’t wait. I’m counting down to that first time to be out there and to get to meet the fans for the first time, to put on a show for them and show them a sign of things to come. I’ve been out in the stadium already, with no-one in there and I’m already excited – to see the stadium bouncing will mean so much to me as well as all of the boys.”
