The Milwaukee Brewers made a trade with the Colorado Rockies and acquired reliever Nick Mears. In exchange they gave up prospects RHP Bradley Blalock and RHP Yujanjer Herrera. Prior to the Brewers Sunday finale against the Miami Marlins Mears was in the clubhouse and was activated to the 26-man roster. While meeting with the media he revealed one major mistake he was making prior to the All-Star break.

From a statistical standpoint Nick Mears doesn’t have an eye-catching ERA. His 2024 ERA is 5.56 and his career ERA is 4.93. On the mound he has an elite fastball and a devastating slider, but prior to the All-Star break Mears was informed that he was tipping his pitches. Mears said that an opposing player told one of his Rockies teammates this information but that he takes full responsibility for the mistake.

Nick Mears didn’t go into all the details but he did say that he made an adjustment with how he comes set. Per the investigation work of Jack Stern at Brewer Fanatic he appears to have added a glove flutter as he is coming set on the mound.
