Wolves are in the race to sign one Euro 2024 star who could replace the departed Max Kilman.

Since Kilman left the club earlier this month, Gary O’Neil’s side has been linked to plenty of defenders to replace their former captain.

Porto’s David Carmo has been one of the strongest links to Molineux, however, these have since died down.

A centre-back is seen as a position in dire need of reinforcements after the club’s stuttering end to the previous season.

However, it now seems that Wolves have eyed a new potential target who had an impressive Euro 2024 campaign with his home nation.

Kevin Danso currently plays for French Ligue 1 side Lens and has had a fantastic summer. The defender, who is a native Austrian, made three appearances for his home nation as they topped Group D which included France and the Netherlands.

The nation eventually went out to Turkey in the first knockout round, but it was nonetheless an impressive tournament for the Austrians.

For Lens, he has also established a big reputation. In the 2022/23 campaign, the club had the best defence in the league thanks to his efforts. While the following campaign wasn’t as successful, he still managed to ensure Lens qualified for the Europa Conference League.

Wolves were linked with Danso last summer, however, they may now reignite their interest.

According to Sebastien Denis, the Old Gold are one of many sides chasing the centre-back this summer. Italian side Atalanta are seen as one of the front runners with Wolves and West Ham also monitoring the situation.

Lens has no desire to let their star man go and will demand at least €25 million for the centre-back.

On top of his recent feats, Danso has been a top performer in multiple stats. According to Fbref, the defender is a successful ball-playing centre-back. Per 90 minutes, he makes 4.19 progressive passes with an 87.8% completion rate.

Danso also has Premier League experience already. Danso spent the 2019/20 campaign at Southampton where he made 10 appearances across all competitions.

For the price of only €25 million for an experienced international centre-back who is only 25 years old, it could be a bargain signing for Wolves.

Nevertheless, the club must bring in a defender soon to ensure the Old Gold have the best possible chance of getting off to a good start in the upcoming season.
