Dodgers GM Opens Up About Trade Deadline Plans.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have gone through a rough patch in recent months filled with injuries to some of their best players, bullpen meltdowns, and offensive slumps that have put a slight damper on what was supposed to be a magical season.
With the trade deadline looming, the often-aggressive Dodgers are in prime position to make another major acquisition, and the GM recently shared where his head is ahead of July 30th.
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes joined High Heat on MLB Network to discuss potential trade deadline plans and said that things are challenging given who is available while considering how much talent they have returning from the injured list, saying “Just because we have guys coming back that are going to get healthy, it doesn’t mean that other guys can’t.”
Gomes noted there are a lot of components to weigh given the injuries to Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Clayton Kershaw and that they’ll look outside the organization if they feel there’s somebody who can provide a skill set and fill a need that they feel like the roster is lacking even when healthy.
It’s unlikely the team will be able to find someone on the open market as impactful as any of the four returning stars the Dodgers have working their way back unless the Dodgers want to cough up huge assets for someone like Luis Robert Jr. or Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox.
Gomes didn’t shut down the idea of making big moves, but this doesn’t seem like the deadline to expect it if you’re a Dodgers fan.
