Ex-Luton Town forward trains with Northampton Town ahead of potential move.

Northampton Town have welcomed Zimbabwean international and recent Luton Town player, Admiral Muskwe, into their pre-season training ahead of a potential free transfer to The Cobblers.

The young forward had come through Leicester City’s academy with The Foxes loaning Muskwe to Wycombe Wanderers in the Championship the year prior to the player’s move to Luton Town.

Muskwe netted three times in his seventeen appearances while on loan with The Chairboys but struggled to find any form whilst playing at Kenilworth Road, featuring twenty times in the Championship for Luton in 2021/22 as Nathan Jones’ side lost to Huddersfield in the play-off semi-finals.

Luton would come again the following year, this time under the management of their former rivals, Watford, boss Rob Edwards with the 41-year-old guiding The Town to play-off glory. However, Muskwe hadn’t made any further strides upon his debut campaign at Luton, instead being loaned out to Fleetwood Town.

Exeter and Fleetwood have both had Muskwe on loan
Admiral Muskwe has plenty of League One experience at both Fleetwood Town and then Exeter City.

The forward’s first loan was to Fleetwood back in September of 2022. The Fishermen slowly integrated Muskwe into their squad with the Luton loanee eventually finding his feet, netting three goals and getting one assist in twelve appearances, it seemed that the Leicester academy product was finding his feet in English football, until Luton surprisingly recalled him. Following the departures of Cameron Jerome and Harry Cornick, Rob Edwards felt that his team had been left light in attack, opting to recall Muskwe in order to elevate the concerns.

Luton

Muskwe bewilderingly though didn’t play another league minute under Rob Edwards following the termination of his loan, despite the Welsh manager stating upon the announcement of his return that ‘He’s [Muskwe] got real quality, got some pace, got some power, got the stuff that we need, I’m looking forward to working with him’. Muskwe’s Exeter City loan couldn’t have gone much worse

Following Luton’s historic return to the top-flight after a 28-year absence, it wasn’t a surprise to see Muskwe depart on yet another return after a further step up in quality.

Exeter City took on the Zimbabwean international, only to rue their decision after Muskwe made just six appearances for them in League One, a number that was affected by Muskwe’s hamstring injury that he suffered whilst on international duty. (BBC Sport)

Luton finally cut ties with Muskwe this summer
In late May Luton Town announced their released and retained list following their relegation from the Premier League, offering heartfelt goodbyes to long-term servants of the club, Luke Berry and Dan Potts. Less was said about Muskwe. (Luton Town)

Muskwe was amongst the five names who were released by Luton with the club only offering a single line to summarise his time at the club which stated simply that he features twenty-six times in orange.

Northampton Town are taking a look at Muskwe in training
It appears as though Muskwe has been given an EFL lifeline however by Luton’s neighbours, Northampton Town, who according to Pete O’Rourke have had the forward train with them for pre-season and are subsequently considering an offer to sign the player for free.

Luton

Muskwe is now 25-years-old and will be hoping that he can contribute in Claret next season otherwise it starts to become a concern where the forward’s career will go next.

The path between Luton Town and Northampton is certainly a well-trodden one with Muskwe possibly joining ex-Luton player, Cameron McGeehan, who made the move to Northampton earlier this month.
