Club ditch efforts to sign Wolves player – Swoop for Manchester United man instead.

For much of the summer, Villarreal have been trying to work out a deal to keep Yerson Mosquera at the club.

The Wolves owned player was on loan at the La Liga side last season and they wanted to retain him for the long term. Mosquera himself hinted on more than one occasion that he’d be happy to continue at Villarreal, feeling he was progressing at the Spanish club, but it appears the deal has been too difficult to do.

Sunday’s edition of Super Deporte, local to Villarreal, reports that’s what the club turned their attention to Manchester United and Willy Kambwala.

The 19-year-old broke through slightly at the Red Devils last season and there’s some annoyance among Manchester United supporters about selling him.
Having a buyback clause in the transfer deal taking him to Villarreal has eased those concerns a little, and there’s also a percentage share of a future profit agreed.

Super Deporte say Villarreal are paying Manchester United €5m for Kambwala, and that amount can ‘easily reach’ €10m due to bonus payments agreed.

What happens with Mosquera is now thrown further in the air, and Wolves will have a decision to make over the 23-year-old, his continued development and whether he has a meaningful place in Gary O’Neil’s squad.
