Will Benson’s three-run home run and a 458-foot homer by rookie Rece Hinds powered the Cincinnati Reds to a commanding 12-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Will Benson hit a three-run home run during a big second inning where the Reds scored five runs. Rookie Rece Hinds also smashed a 458-foot home run. These big hits helped the Cincinnati Reds easily defeat the Colorado Rockies 12-6 on Tuesday night.
Hinds, who is 23 years old, hit a long home run for the second consecutive game. He had a 421-foot home run in his first major league game on Monday. In Tuesday’s game, he hit another impressive home run off Colorado reliever Justin Lawrence as part of a four-run seventh inning for the Reds.
Although Hinds missed hitting a single to complete the cycle on Tuesday, he achieved a historic feat by becoming the first player ever to get five extra-base hits in his first two major league games.
“I didn’t know that,” Hinds said about his record. “But I knew I was doing some pretty cool stuff. I try not to pay too much attention to the statistics.”
Tyler Stephenson and Spencer Steer also hit home runs for the Reds, who won their second consecutive game against the Rockies.
This victory came after they were swept by the Detroit Tigers in their previous series over the weekend.
Stephenson praised Hinds, saying, “I’ve known about him from his time in the minor leagues. His power is real. Not many players can hit the ball as far as he did tonight. It’s really impressive.”
The game started well for Colorado pitcher Cal Quantrill, who struck out the side in the first inning. However, he struggled in the second inning, giving up a home run to Stephenson that traveled 421 feet into the left field second deck.
Rockies manager Bud Black commented on Quantrill’s tough second inning, saying, “Cal got to a 3-0 count against Stephenson, who hit a solo home run to make it 1-0. Then the walk and hit-by-pitch followed, and things unraveled from there.”
Despite a late rally by the Rockies with four runs in the fourth inning, including home runs by Brenton Doyle and Michael Toglia, the Reds maintained their lead and secured the victory.
