Sea Eagles out to consolidate top four spot in Flegg.
An opportunity to consolidate their position inside the vital top four awaits the exciting Manly Warringah Sea Eagles team in the Jersey Flegg Cup on Sunday, July 14.
The Sea Eagles sit fourth on 24 points, one point ahead of their opponents in the fifth placed Newcastle Knights, in what is shaping up to be an enthralling match in the first game of a triple header at 4 Pines Park, Brookvale.
The Knights beat the Sea Eagles 26-24 at Newcastle in round 14, so Manly will be looking to square the ledger on Golden Eagles Day.
The Sea Eagles head into the match on the back of a 20-16 victory over the Melbourne Storm at 4 Pines Park last Saturday.
Three tries in the first 16 minutes were enough for the Sea Eagles to get off to a great start before Melbourne scored three tries in the second half to set up a grandstand finish.
“I was really happy with the way we started, but we missed multiple options to put the Storm away which helped them to get back into the game,” Manly Coach Scott Kenna said.
“The positive from the game is that we learnt how to win in a different way.
“Prop Devante Mihinui was really impressive against the Storm and deserves his promotion to the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles team this week.
“We have a really exciting challenge against the Knights as we have several players injured and playing NSW Cup, including Devante, Daniel O’Donnell, Max Hayley, and Kylan Mafoa.
“Daniel will make his NSW Cup debut. He has come through our Pathways program and is a very smart footballer.
“This is a great opportunity for our younger squad members getting a chance again.”
