DETROIT — To wrap up their extended series, the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians meet up in their fourth and final game this week.

The Tigers have a chance to win back-to-back series for the first time since late April. The team came into the series with the Guardians on a high after sweeping the Cincinnati Reds. Now, thanks to a win on Monday night, and an uncomfortably close win on Wednesday night, Detroit has a chance to clinch a series against the first-place Guardians.
Granted, even with a win on Thursday, the team would have a ton of work to do in order to come close to the playoff picture. With a 6-3 record in the month of July, the Bengals are fourth in the American League Central, 14 games back of Cleveland, and seven behind the Boston Red Sox for the last Wild Card spot.
The Guardians have been playing fairly inconsistently over the past few weeks, a rarity for the 2024 campaign. Following Wednesday’s near-comeback, Cleveland is 5-4 so far this month, and is five games up on the second-place Minnesota Twins.
