Jose Ramirez Could Become Cleveland Guardians’ All-Time All-Star.
The Cleveland Guardians have five players on the American League All-Star team. The last time Cleveland had more than that on the All-Star roster was 2018, when six of manager Terry Francona’s players were selected.
Five of those six 2018 Cleveland All-Stars are no longer with the organization: Corey Kluber, Francisco Lindor, Michael Brantley, Yan Gomes, and Trevor Bauer.
The only one from that Cleveland all-star class that still plays with Cleveland is a player who, if he has his way, will never play for another team: Jose Ramirez.
In the history of the franchise, only five Cleveland players have been selected for the Major League All-Star Game more times than Jose Ramirez. Four of those five players – Bob Feller, Lou Boudreau, Larry Doby, and Bob Lemon – are in the Hall of Fame.

We know this because Jose Ramirez declared it on opening day of the 2022 season, when he signed the largest contract in Cleveland baseball history, but a grossly under-market deal for a player of Ramirez’s stature: 7-years, $141 million. That will take him through the 2028 season, when he will be 35 years old. But even that may not take arguably the most popular player in franchise history to the end of his career.
“I want to stay with Cleveland for my whole career,” Ramirez told Cleveland officials the day he signed his outrageously club-friendly contract. “I want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Cleveland Indian (the team’s name at the time).”

Ramirez will be one of Cleveland’s two All-Star starters in this year’s game. The other is a 5-foot-9, 170-pound hitting machine named Steven Kwan, who is leading the majors with a .364 batting average, which is 40 points higher than any player in either league.
